  • The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar TD has announced that a new €60m scheme ‘the Covid-19 Business Aid Scheme (CBAS) is being developed. The purpose of scheme is to provide grants to businesses ineligible for existing schemes designed to help with fixed costs. Read more.

  • Due to the current level 5 restrictions and the challenges of adjusting to the new CORE portal the CRO has announced that it will extend the current filing arrangements for companies with an annual return date of 30th September 2020 or later until 28th May 2021.
  • The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport, Gaeltacht and Media, Catherine Martin T.D. recently announced a new €55million Tourism Business Continuity Scheme.  The purpose of the scheme is to support tourism businesses that were not eligible for the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS) or previous Fáilte Ireland continuity grant schemes. The scheme is to be administered by Fáilte Ireland with the first phase due to launch February 11th 2021.
  • The Revenue Commissioners have recently published the list of employers who received payments under the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS). Updated statistics in relation to the Covid-19 Support Schemes has also been published showing that there are 45,900 employers registered for the EWSS with subsidy payments of €331million in January to date.
  •  A new Tax and Duty Manual - Guidelines for conducting Revenue Interventions remotely during Covid-19 – has been published providing guidance to case workers when conducting compliance interventions during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

  • The Revenue Commissioners have issued updated guidance in relation to personal tax matters referred to in eBrief 232/20. This follows guidance in December 2020 in which the Revenue confirmed that some of the concessionary measures introduced in March 2020 would be retained but others would cease to apply on 31 December 2020. In light of the current public health restrictions, the position has been reviewed resulting in some additional benefit in kind measures being retained.
  • The Revenue Commissioners have published provisional statistics which provide key insights into the preliminary end of year tax position for all PAYE taxpayers.
