Previous Career Experience: 

I first emigrated to Canada in 1989 and worked in the Aerospace industry for 7 years.

When and Why did you move to the US?

I moved to the US in 1997 to work in Governmental Accounting. I started in the County of Charleston (South Carolina) for local government Revenue Department Tax Collections for 3 years then became the Finance Director for the City of Folly Beach for 11 years. I have been the CFO for the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission since.

What does your current job involve?

I am part of the Executive Group that oversees the financial management of the County Parks. We have 183 fulltime staff and seasonally hire approximately 800 part time staff annually.

What advice would you have for an Irish CPA interested in working in the US?

Research and visit the US first to identify those quality lifestyles traits you seek, i.e. climate, geography, culture, job opportunities, cost of living, etc.
