Answers to frequently asked questions on Examinations.

  • When can I sit examinations?
    • F1 Examinations are held twice annually in May and December of each year.
    • F2, P1 and P2 Examinations are held twice annually in April and August of each year.
  • How do I apply for examinations?
    Students must apply for examinations via their MyCPA profile which can be found here http://portal.cpaireland.ie/login.aspx 
  • How long do I have to pass the examinations?
    • A student that first registered as a student of the Institute at the Formation 1 Stage must pass all stages of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of 9 years.
    • A student that first registered as a student of the Institute at the Formation 2 Stage must pass all remaining stages of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of 8 years.
    • A student that first registered as a student of the Institute at the Professional 1 Stage must pass all remaining stages of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of 5 years.
    • A student that first registered as a student of the Institute at the Professional 2 Stage must pass this stage of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of two years.


     
  • Can I combine examinations from different stages?
    Students, who upon registration as a student with the Institute, who were granted an exemption from an examination in at least one subject at either the F2 or P1 Stage may elect to combine examinations at both of these stages in the same diet of examinations. The following rules apply to Combined F2 and P1 sittings: 
    1. A maximum of four subjects may be taken in any diet of examinations. There is no lower limit. 
    2. Once a subject has been sat, it must be passed within the four available consecutive sittings, inclusive of the first sitting. 
    3. The combined F2 and P1 Stage must be passed within eight available consecutive sittings, inclusive of the first sitting. 
    4. F2 Management Accounting must be passed or have had an exemption granted before a student may apply to sit the P1 Managerial Finance examination. 
    5. F2 Financial Accounting must be passed or have had an exemption granted before a student may apply to sit the P1 Corporate Reporting examination. 
  • How many exams can I sit at each diet of examinations?
    Students are permitted to sit a maximum of 4 examinations per exam diet.
  • How do I receive my exam results?
    Examination Results are only available via your student My CPA profile.  A full breakdown of the detailed marks by question is given along with the overall result.  Results are published approximately 6 weeks from the last day of examinations.
