Answers to frequently asked questions on Examinations.

  • When can I sit examinations?
    • Foundation Level, Professional Level and Strategic Level Examinations are held twice annually in April and August of each year.
  • How do I apply for examinations?
    Students must apply for examinations via their MyCPA profile which can be found here http://portal.cpaireland.ie/login.aspx 
  • How long do I have to pass the examinations?
    • A student that first registered as a student with the Institute at the Foundation Level must pass all levels of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of 9 years.
    • A student that first registered as a student with the Institute at the Professional Level must pass all remaining levels of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of 7 years.
    • A student that first registered as a student with the Institute at the Strategic Level must pass this level of the Institute’s examinations within a maximum of three years.

     
  • Can I combine examinations from different stages?
    Should students wish to attempt examinations from the next examination level, they may do so, however, they must also register to sit the remaining subjects in their current exam level in the same exam sitting. E.g., All remaining examinations at Foundation level must be applied for if attempting a subject(s) from the Professional level.  All remaining Professional level examinations must be applied for if attempting a subject(s) from the Strategic level.  N.B. Please note a maximum of four examinations may only be applied for per examination sitting.
  • How many exams can I sit at each diet of examinations?
    Students are permitted to sit a maximum of 4 examinations per exam diet.
  • How do I receive my exam results?
    Examination Results are only available via your student My CPA profile.  A full breakdown of the detailed marks by question is given along with the overall result.  Results are published approximately 6 weeks from the last day of examinations.
