The Institute of Certified Public Accountants In Ireland (CPA Ireland) has entered into a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) with the world’s second largest accounting body, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICA India). This agreement offers both bodies the opportunity for key strategic partnerships and supports trade opportunities between the two countries by fostering peer to peer relationships. The MRA also facilitates global careers opportunities for Irish certified public accountants, as it provides a route for qualified members to become members of the ICA India.
Geoff Meagher, President, CPA Ireland, said, “This MRA strengthens the already excellent relationship between our two organisations. Perhaps most importantly, in today’s environment, strategic alliances are integral to ensure continued global recognition and global career opportunities for our respective memberships. India is among the fastest growing economies in the world and even during the peak of the global recession, grew by over 5% in 2009.
“India has become an acknowledged hub for business process outsourcing and the service sector in India is greatly expanding. This MRA, in addition to our existing international agreements demonstrates the global respect in which the CPA Ireland qualification is held and the global opportunities that the CPA Ireland qualification offers.”
The MRA offers CPA Ireland and ICA India the opportunity to work more collaboratively, providing increased levels of service to members, undertaking joint research and thought leadership initiatives on the global stage, and acting as advocates within the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and regional accounting networks.
The agreement does not cover those wishing to practice as a public practice accountant and/or to undertake auditing work due to the specific regulatory and legal requirements in each jurisdiction. The MRA comes into effect on 01 October 2010. Contact the Institute for further details.
