A Unique Qualification

The Certified Tax Adviser (CTax) course, which was funded by CPA Ireland Skillnet, offers a unique and exciting higher level qualification in Tax for accounting and legal professionals. The designation of Certified Tax Adviser (CTax) is awarded on successful completion of the Special Purpose Certificate in Advanced Taxation Planning and Advice. This QQI validated programme is placed at Level 8 on Ireland’s National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and consists of 15 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits and is in line with European higher education standards.

Course Aims

The Certified Tax Adviser (CTax) Course aims to:

  • Provide learners with a detailed understanding and application of the  taxes affecting individuals and corporations within the Irish tax system.

  • Provide learners with knowledge of the reliefs available to individuals and corporations in minimising the tax liability.

  • Develop the learners’ ability to interpret and analyse the information provided and provide tax planning advice in a manner appropriate to the intended audience.

  • The course will specifically focus on the key topical issues across the various tax heads.

The Certified Tax Adviser (CTax) Qualification is specifically designed for financial professionals who wish to gain an advanced understanding of the latest tax issues affecting business. The course will place heavy emphasis on the practical application of Tax Law. When, Where & How?

The next Certified Tax Adviser (CTax) Qualification course will start in September 2018 and will be delivered in Dublin and online via live streaming. All delivery subject to sufficient number of participants. Please contact Aisling Mooney for more information.

The course is delivered in 8 modules, on Saturdays from September to end March.  Each module will run from 9.00am to 4.00pm, will earn 6 hours CPD credit and consist of a lecture, scenario analysis, mini case studies etc. A full schedule and a breakdown of topics covered on each module is available here.

To gain the qualification participants must complete an Assignment and final Exam. The assignment will consist of a written report of no more than 3500 words providing tax advice on particular issues which will have been covered in the course.  The final exam will consist of a three hour restricted open book exam. 


Entry Requirements

This is an advanced taxation course specifically designed for financial professionals who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the latest tax issues affecting business. Candidates will typically be qualified accountants and financial or legal professionals with a strong level of understanding of Irish taxation principles. It is an advanced level tax course which assumes that all participants fully understand the basics of Irish taxation.
